Description: The A400M is a multinational European programme to design, develop and deliver a brand new military transport aircraft. The A400M will replace the Tactical Air Transport (Tac AT), capability currently provided by the C-130J Hercules fleet, with a worldwide medium lift, Tac AT and fixed wing Special Forces capability in order to meet the expectations of Defence policy. The scope of the UK elements of the programme comprises: delivery of 22 A400M aircraft; a UK In Service Support solution; and a UK training solution for air- and ground-crews.

DCA text: The A400M programme continues to make steady progress with the first customer aircraft delivered (to France) in August 2013. The UK A400M Training Service (which was approved in July 2012) continues to make good progress and remains on track to deliver in accordance with its agreed schedule. Action to address In Service Support (ISS) affordability issues has been taken, and the ISS Main Gate Business Case has completed scrutiny and is awaiting Ministerial approval which was anticipated in April 2014.
