Description: The Crossrail programme will deliver a new high-frequency rail service and supporting infrastructure for London and the South East.  A key part of this is the construction of twin tunnels, each 13 miles long, through the heart of central London.  When it opens (in stages from 2018) Crossrail will run from Maidenhead / Heathrow in the west to Shenfield in the east / Abbey Wood in the south east. Crossrail will create; economically-vital new transport infrastructure to support London’s growth, delivering faster journey times and providing a 10% uplift in rail-based transport capacity.  It will put an additional 1.5 million people within 45 minutes of London’s business centres, facilitating employment growth of up to 30,000 jobs by 2026 in Central London.
