Description: The provision of sustainable and unsubsidised air services to the British Overseas Territory of St Helena to meet UK obligation to maintain access and promote economic development through tourism.

DCA text: At this early stage in the construction phase (one year into a four year programme) there remain significant risks, both to delivery of the airport and of associated services including aviation fuel and air services. These are being actively managed by a Programme Board which also monitors actions to achieve wider economic development on St Helena required to deliver project benefits.

Whole Life Cost £423.47m
WLCost text: The whole life cost of the airport covers design, construction and 40 years of operations. It includes both UK Government support and funding by the St Helena Government. UK Government support, which will cease after the first ten years of operations, includes the main DBO contract, signed in November 2011 in the amount of £236.6 million (£201.5 million for design and construction, and £35.1 million for the first ten years of operations), with an additional £10 million in shared risk contingency.
